BOSTON, Mass. - The Wheelock field hockey team earned the number overall seed in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tournament. With a win over Elms College this past Saturday, Wheelock took the top seed using multiple tie-breakers. The Wildcats eventually won the tie-breaker due to a win over New England College earlier in the season. Wheelock beat New England College 5-3, while Elms lost 4-0.
Wheelock leads the conference in goals per game with 4.5, led by senior Katie Frade's (Dartmouth, Mass.) 16 conference goals. Wheelock also leads the conference in goals against average, behind goalkeeper Cassidy Smith's (South Berwick, Maine) 0.40 goals against average, and .875 save percentage.
The Wildcats go into the playoffs with a four game winning streak and a 5-1 record in the NECC. Wheelock's only loss was on the road at Elms College. The Wildcats will host the fourth seeded Bay Path University on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. The NECC Championship game will be on Saturday afternoon.
