Hedayaty, Brown Lead Men's Tennis Against Johnson State

DORCHESTER, Mass. – The Wheelock College men's tennis team took three points from visiting Johnson State College but eventually fell 6-3 at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club. The Wildcats move to 0-3 on the season while the Badgers even their record at 1-1.

In doubles action, sophomore Arvin Hedayaty (Tarzana, Calif.) and senior Matt Brown (Angola, Ind.) started Wheelock off strong at the top doubles spot. The pair cruised to an 8-2 victory over junior Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) and senior Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.). Still, Johnson State recovered to double up their opponents at the second doubles position 8-4 and win third doubles 8-2 to take a 2-1 edge into singles action.

Once again at the top positions the Wildcats excelled as Hedayaty defeated Lane in the first spot, edging his opponent in a tiebreaker 9-7 to win the first set 7-6 before closing out the straight sets victory 6-2. Meanwhile, Brown took care of the second single position conceding just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win.

The Badgers showed their depth however as they won the third through sixth singles positions to secure a 6-3 victory.

Wheelock returns to action next Sunday when they host Lyndon State for a 5:00 p.m. match. Johnson State hosts Thomas on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. start.
