BOSTON, Mass. – Wildcats (0-12)(0-2 NECC) couldn't find their grove against Bay Path College (9-9)(2-0 NECC) and lose double header, at Boston University Softball Field, Tuesday evening.
GAME ONE – BAY PATH COLLEGE 11, WHEELOCK 2 - 6 INNINGS
Wheelock was in a back and forth battle early on with Bay Path, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. However, a single to center field by Hanna Gootee (Hampton, N.H.), sent Samantha Leahon (Castleton, N.Y.) across the plate. Rachael Simpson (Littleton, Mass.) was able to build on the momentum and singled to left field scoring Shannon Creedon (Woodstock, Conn.) to pull the Wildcats within 1 run.
Bay Path was able to score two more runs in the second, including one by Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) on a wild pitch. However, Wheelock was able to solidify their defensive front and hold the visiting Wildcats scoreless until the 5th inning. Bay Path was able to string together several hits in the 6th inning to seal the victory, including Katrina Peck's (Newington, Conn.) single to right field to score both Rebekah Walker (Webster, Mass.) and Lilly West (Goshen, Mass.)
GAME TWO - BAY PATH COLLEGE 14, WHEELOCK 0 - 5 INNINGS
In the second game of the double header, the Wildcats saw a solid game on the mound by Taylor McDonald (Weare, N.H.) who went three innings. Kathy Ochoa (El Paso, Texas) came in as a reliever, after getting the start in the first game of the double header, to pitch a 1 run 4th & 5th inning. Wheelock got a late push when junior outfielder, Samantha Leahon singled to right before stealing second base. Ultimately, Bay Path's defense held out and kept the young Wildcats scoreless.
UP NEXT: Wheelock is back in action on Saturday, March 31st when they travel to Mitchell College for a 12:00/2 p.m. double header.
