NASHUA, N.H. - This afternoon the Wheelock College women's lacrosse team routed Daniel Webster College in New England Collegiate Conference action on the road, 16-1. The Wildcats close their NECC slate at 5-3 and are now 7-6 overall while the Eagles fall to 2-8 and 1-6 in the conference.
Wheelock scored early and often as sophomore Colleen Macdonald (Sandwich, Mass.) found the back of the net on a free position just 14 seconds into the game. Junior Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) doubled their advantage a little over a minute later off a feed from classmate Molly Brennan (Walpole, N.H.).
The home team cut their deficit in half at the 26:55 mark on a goal from senior McKenzie Stone (Shelton, Conn.), however, that was as close as they would get.
Over the remainder of the opening period, the visitors went on a 7-0 run featuring four more scores from Frade while Macdonald capped the surge with 20 ticks remaining to send the Wildcats into the break up 9-1.
The second stanza proved to be more of the same as six different players found the back of the net. Wheelock shutout Daniel Webster 7-0 in the period as sophomore Abbie Sheehan (Upton, Mass.) closed the scoring with 6:06 on the clock.
The Wildcats were led by Frade who racked up a career-high nine points on six goals and three assists. Sophomore Georgia Schindele (Sparkill, N.Y.) added seven points on a hat trick and game-best four assists while Macdonald contributed six points with a hat trick and three assists. Senior Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, Maine) earned the win in net as she made six saves.
Stone led the Eagles with one goal while junior Rose Brown (Queens Bridge, N.Y.) scooped up a team-high four ground balls. Sophomore goalie Diamond Majett (Philadelphia, Pa.) suffered the loss despite making 14 stops.
Wheelock returns to action on Thursday when they host Lyndon State at 7:00 p.m.
